The Nebulizer

Little Ellis is sick, as are her parents. Between the trip to New Orleans, the plane ride, teething and just starting daycare, she might as well have a bulls eye on her. She has an ear infection in her right ear and is wheezing due to all the congestion in her chest (caused by the unprecedented mucous production brought on by teething and the cold).

So we have to use a "nebulizer" (pictured here) three times a day for a week to create a vapor of some medicine that she breathes through this mask. The medicine is supposed to shake loose all the yucky stuff in her chest. The doctor and the nurse told us that we should expect her to cry for the entire 5 minutes that the nebulizer is on.

But she handled it very calmly. She played with the newspaper for a little while but, for the most part, just leaned against Beth and breathed. In fact, she smiled through most of it (picture to the left).

She is such a sweet, brave girl.

Both Beth and Mike caught this cold too. It took Beth's voice for 2 days (she was reduced to a whisper). And both Beth and Mike were wiped out for a week. Ellis contracted a fever of 101.8 on the 12th, which panicked her parents. But the doctor informed them that, at this age, it doesn't mean much unless it hangs around for a while or is accompanied by some other symptoms. Ellis is as smiley and energetic as ever, so the doctor thinks this is teething-related.
