An Ellis Story

On Sunday, I was trying to get Ellis to lay down for a nap but she decided that I was the one who needed the nap. She covered me with a blanket and started rubbing my back. She also gave me her stuffed animals to hug.

Often after reading her books and rubbing her back, Ellis asks that I pat her bottom. I will generally cave but always say, "Okay, but just a little." So after rubbing my back, she started to bat my bottom and said, "Just a little."

Also, both Mike and my clocks by the bed are noise machines with several options from ocean to rain forest to waterfall. Ellis insisted that I put mine on ocean and Mikes on whale (which includes wave sounds) so that she could hear waves on both sides. She has insisted on this every night since.

Bonus Story: On the way home, Ellis was showing me a bug bite and told me it itched. I told her that tooth paste would make it stop itching. She says, "I don't have tooth paste." [She meant I don't have to use tooth paste. She says "have" instead of "have to."] So I told her it was the best, with emphasis on "best." Ellis puts her hands on my cheeks, turns my face to hers and says, "Mom, tooth paste is not the best."
