Daddy Returns
After his 5-week trip to South Africa, Ellis was ready for Daddy to come home. Ellis and I went to Eastern Market in the morning and, when we returned, there he was. Ellis calmly walked up to him and held out her arms for a hug. Mike picked her up and from there Ellis did not want Mike to be out of her sight. Even at nap time -- Mike laid down next to Ellis to help settle her down -- she did not want to close her eyes for fear that he would leave when she did.

Ellis is settling in to having Mike at home again. The nightmares are starting to subside and bedtime is approaching normal again. In another week, I hope to be back to the old routine.
Unfortunately, both Mike and Ellis were sick during his first week back. Ellis had a fever that cleared up within 24 hours. But poor Mike came home with food poisoning, and it did not go away. Finally on Friday, he went to the doctor for medicinal help.
On Saturday, after a super-fun trip to the pool with sweet, young Alastair and his lovely mother Cassandra, an over-tired Ellis took a nap that ended with night terrors. She was agitated while asleep and appeared to wake up, but she was inconsolable for over 30 minutes. I could get her to answer "yes" to only one question: "Do you want to see a doctor?" As you might imagine, it freaked us out. We did call the doctor, who assured us that everything was okay, and we took Ellis for a walk to the fountain. Once there, she asked to get an empanada, specifically a chorizo empanada, and proceeded to eat half of it. That's a lot of food for someone Ellis' size. But by the end, she was back to her sweet self.
