Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear
Ellis, Pops, Kackie and I went out to the Rally to Restore and/or Fear. We were totally taken aback at the size of the crowds. By the time we got there at noon, the crows had the filled the National Mall from 3rd Street to 12th Street. We could get no closer and could see nothing and hear very little. But the weather was beautiful and the crowd was friendly, so we hung out for a while to take in the sights (and then went home to watch the rally on DVR).

Stewart gave a closing speech that was impressive (you can catch some of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PJ5hijen4A&feature=player_embedded). I particularly liked the analogy to cars merging in traffic. He said something like this: "Every now and then, someone speeds down the shoulder and cuts people off. But that person is scorned and is an outlier -- he is not hired as a commentator."
Ellis was a total champ all day. She was not happy when she heard music and we couldn't get close enough to watch, but otherwise she was an absolute joy in spite of the crowds and being dragged hither and yon. One cute vignette: after the 'Star Spangled Banner,' I told her the story of the song, which she made me repeat at least half a dozen times. It was a really good time.
