Family Picture of Growing Kids

Last weekend, as the cherry blossoms passed their peak waaaay to early in the season (thank you, climate change), we took some family pictures. Again, my friend Tom took the pictures and, again, hit it out of the park.  This is one of many amazing pictures.

To be clear, I hate pictures of me.  I don't dislike them or just try to avoid them, I hate them.  But Tom works such magic, I love the pictures he takes.  And he is not a photographer -- I mean, not professionally, though he certainly could be.  He is a lobbyist, and just as good at that job.  This is his hobby.  Amazing, eh?  I will share more soon.

In the meantime, I will share more stories about my growing kids.  I am going to start with Anders who is clearly going through a growth spurt.  For one, he weighs a ton.  He needs to start walking soon because he is tough to haul around.  Plus, he doesn't help out.  He twists around and leans back to make sure it is as difficult as possible to hold him.  He is eating really well (so the growth spurt is unlikely to stop), including small pieces of potato, raspberry and strawberry.  One quirk, is he is much likely to eat his baby food, if he has something to play with, like a spatula or a toy.  If he doesn't, he will push the food away.

Anders is quickly moving to one nap a day.  Currently, it runs from 11:30-1:30, but I am confident it will move back to 12:30 or so in the next month.  That schedule works much better for me.  His bedtime remains around 8:15, but the rest of the night is unpredictable.  He wakes up in the middle of the night anywhere from 1:30 to 4:00.  Other nights he sleep straight through to 6:30 or 7:00.  Then sometimes, he wakes up at 6:00 is wide awake and other times goes back to sleep for an hour.  Totally bizarre.

My baby is also maturing.  He doesn't try to mess with the wine rack or etagere anymore, even if he is right next to it and we don't notice.  Another fun development is he jokes with me.  Last night I took his pacifier and put it in my mouth.  He thought that was funny, tried to grab it, and after a few tries I let him have it.  So tonight, he picked up his pacifier and put it in my mouth, started laughing, and restarted the game.

Now Ellis.  At bedtime tonight, she got in bed and started crying because she missed her daddy.  (Mike had gone out to dinner.)  We talked about what she loved about her dad and she listed his hugs, that he is silly and fun, and that he cooks with her.  After she calmed down, she told me I should go downstairs and walked me to the steps, holding my hand.  She sent me down the stair and then, thinking she was fooling me, played in her room a bit.  But she was asleep within about 15 minutes.  Very cute.
