Uncle Scott, Aunt Hollee, Allee and Baylee Visit
Last week, Uncle Scott, Aunt Hollee, Allee and Baylee came to visit during the longest hot streak in DC recorded history. On top of which, we were hit by a massive wind storm that knocked out power to 1.2 million homes in the metropolitan area. Thanks to buried utilities, we were not included in that number. Sadly, Kathy was and eventually escaped to Shepherdstown to stay with friends.
We were only somewhat deterred by the heat. We tried every activity we could come up with, including getting out and got a good amount of use out of the double stroller that Sulama picked up.
There was fun with shaving cream and food dye.
There was a little TV and snuggling.
Allee slept in Ellis' room, in her trundle bed. But one night, she crawled into bed with Ellis and we caught it on camera.
This was totally staged and as close to still as we could get all the kids at one time.
Here was out attempt to go to the park one day when it was 95 degrees by 10:30am. We lasted 30 minutes.
Uncle Scott was a hit with everyone. He has Pops' pied piper quality. He also has both a lot of patience and toughness when it comes to the rules. I was really impressed.
This was the typical level of chaos. Notice that Scott is totally nonplussed.
But amidst the chaos was also a lot of sweetness.
We went to see the White House and the Lincoln monument on a night that was hot but totally tolerable.
There was also a trip to the zoo, where we actually saw the pandas without standing in an hour-long line.
Scott and Hollee are amazing parents. I learned a lot by watching them interact with their kids as well as mine. And I am stealing much of what I saw.
