Adventures Around DC

It has been a while since I posted, so let me catch you up on our many adventures.  After 16 years in Washington, DC, I finally made it to Roosevelt Island for a nice hike on a pretty summer day.  It is too overgrown and needs some maintenance post-earthquake, but it is a really nice escape from the city while being right by the city.
Anders was most enamored by the frogs we saw in the pond.
On opening day for college football, the kids dressed the part -- Anders in Beth's LSU shirt.  The shirt does not have a tiger on it, but as soon as he saw it, he yelled "TIGERS!"
We headed to Haines Point, and hugged some trees and played some putt-putt.
Playing at the park.
Walking to school (Anders loves to walk Ellis in to school).
And preparing to cheer for our boys in the World Cup qualifier against Mexico. We let Ellis stay up late to watch the game and, while she fell asleep during the second half, she was clearly our good luck charm.  Dos-a-cero!  Again!!!
Then we hit the National Book Festival, which of course also involved a couple rides on the carousel.

Then there was some tussling with bean bags,...

 ...some art work...
...and story-telling.  The story read was written by Queen Rania al-Abdullah of Jordan.  And we all got free copies at the end because, I imagine, they don't need to sell a lot of copies to support themselves.  It was a delightful story about swapping a PB&J with a hummus and pita sandwich.
And Anders spent some time with a stuffed horse.  He was more excited about that than this picture shows.
