Starting the New School Year
Ellis started second grade with Ms. Best.
We all went to drop her off, though Anders' first day wasn't for 4 more days. Ellis was super excited to get back to school. When I asked her if she was sad the summer was over, she responded, "No. We had a long summer with lots a great activities. I'm ready for school to start again." Success! She also came home and tried on my shoes.
And quickly got back to work reading the Harry Potter series. She was on book 3 here, but she is now on book 5.
We decided to enjoy time with Anders while Ellis was back in school and before he started class. So I took him on a hike in Rock Creek Park and to visit the Nature Center. There is a little library and playroom there with lots of puppets.
This is the basement of the old Pierce Mill, which we toured. I've passed it a thousand times since moving to DC but this is the first time we stopped in and looked around.
And we spent a day at the Zoo.
Including several rides on the carousel, which Anders enjoys again (he loved it then was afraid of it for a while). And then we played on the giant pizza. This is his olive and cheese fort.
The whole thing was exhausting. He slept here for an hour.
Finally, the big day came.
Anders was excited to see Ethan and show him a new book we got at the Nature Center on snakes.
Here he is with his whole class and new teachers, Ms. Whitaker, and Ms. Bathea. He misses Ms. Weekes and Ms. Davis from last year (who both left the school) but likes his new teachers very much.
One more picture to show how big Ellis is getting. Here she and her friends organized a soccer game while waiting to be picked up.
