Trip to Scotland -- Days 1 & 2 in Oban
We ventured out to the West Coast of Scotland to a little resort town called Oban. Our house was about 10 miles outside of own and 6.5 miles down a single lane, two way road -- which Anders likes to say is the "middle of nowhere." We learned to maneuver past other cars, garbage trucks and buses to get to the house. Yes, in Scotland, there is frequent transit service to the middle of nowhere. Our house was just past the tiny town on Bonawe on a hillside overlooking Loch Etive.
Kathy, James and Ian came from where they had been staying in Germany to spend the week with us. Here is the whole crew getting ready to eat a home cooked meal in Oban.
And relaxing afterward.
The kids found ways to entertain themselves. At this point, they were still sleeping until about 9am. (I'm not sure they never got up before 10am in Glasgow.)
At the second cairn, which looks like a pile of stones from the outside, the sign invited us to climb in.
Same with the third one, where we staged the kids second album cover.
Finally we made it to the stone circle and ran around.
Back at the ranch, we spotted an otter swimming in the loch.
Kathy and James hiked the hill across from our house. This is at about 8pm. And while you can barely see them, we could hear much of what they were saying. It sounded like they were on the porch with us. But they couldn't hear us.
As you do in Scotland, we enjoyed scotch (and gin) and ice cream on the porch and watched the sun set over Loch Etive.

On our first full day, we headed down to Kilmartin Glen to hike to the cairns and the stone circle.
